What the heck is novalandia.online?

NVO is an OpenSim grid hosted by Valerie on an array of processor threads on a single machine, a place that is part surreal liminality, and part strange alien world called Phyria.

I created NVO because, although I like the many places available to visit across the HyperGrid, I wanted my own place, my own architecture, and less that was out of my control, like rules, moderation, and the ability to do absolutely, and entirely, anything and everything I want to do. You know, kind of like how I used to feel about Second Life, until I realized it's built entirely to eat your wallet alive, forever.

And, although the grid is only about 28 regions for now, there is always room to expand.

What's a hypergrid?

Unlike Second Life, OpenSim exists across a vast network of servers connected to each other that all host their own simulators and regions, and you can hop between them with a single avatar, no matter where you created it! It's kind of like Mastodon, but Second Life.

This means that Linden Labs has no control over anything happening here, and they can't charge you for every single little thing you do.

Why would I want this, rather than Second Life?

Second Life is a pale shadow of what it used to be. A social world of creation that's been turned into a place controlled and manipulated completely by land barons. People who yearn to make profit no matter the cost, and it is because of this, that I feel the social aspect of Second Life has died.

OpenSim is free, and so is everything in it, so you can probably guess that most of what happens in OS isn't motivated by profit.

How do I join, and how can I support NVO?

Registration is free: create an avatar, confirm your email, and log in. New avatars can explore, chat and shop right away, and can build anywhere they're allowed after 48 hours (the Sandbox region is open to them from day one).

If you want to help keep NVO and Phyria online, running smoothly, and growing, become a Supporter. Supporters get the Supporter role in the NOVALANDIA group, skip the 48-hour building wait, and get Operator clearance on mkultra.monster.
